National Librarians’ Day celebrated in Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: National Librarians’ Day was celebrated in Arunachal alongwith rest of the country to pay tribute to father of Library Science Dr. S R Ranganathan on his birthday today.
The Department of Public Libraries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the Day by organizing an extempore speech competition amongst the school children on the topic “How to develop reading habit in the young age” to understand the importance of libraries in shaping their lives. Students from various schools of Itanagar participated in the competition.
Addressing the participants DL&IO (Hq), L Ete informed that National Librarians’ Day is celebrated in India on August 12 in remembrance of Padmashree Dr Ranganathan, who spearheaded library development in India. This Day reminds the librarians their mission to work towards meeting the information needs of the people by providing high quality information system, he said.
The Deputy Director Resarch, B Pertin described the importance of library and the vital role of a librarian in moulding and shaping the young minds. He advised the students to make reading book in library a habit to gain knowledge.

Pasighat: The "National Librarians’ Day" was celebrated in a befitting manner at the Pasighat district library.
Speaking on the occasion Education and Library Minister Bosiram Siram called upon the school and college students, employees and general public to become regular library readers for enhancing and acquiring information and knowledge on various fields. Terming it as ‘storehouse of knowledge’ he said the role of library in collecting and preserving the information etc is commendable and it would fulfill the needs of the younger generations.
Siram urged the citizens to visit to the library regularly and appreciate the library professionals for their untiring services. But he admitted that there are huge tasks ahead for librarians to help common people improve reading habit. Illiteracy, poverty and lack of knowledge are still prevalent among people in the state, he said while urging the officers and teachers to share their knowledge about library in schools to inspire the students.
Taking privilege, the minister urged one and all to join hands and cooperate the state government to implement all the schemes and projects successfully in the state for larger interest of the people.
While condemning the Bandh culture he appealed all to cooperate in implementing the hydro power projects for financial development of the state. The projects would not only meet the demands of water and electricity, but would help to set up industries and develop agricultural sector which would make Arunachal a financially strong state, added Siram.

Tawang: Speaking on the occasion of National Librarian’s day celebration at Tawang, deputy commissioner Kemo Lollen emphasized on the need for publication and exhibition of old records and rare books of the district as well as the state written by various authors at the District Library. Accessibility to such books will help and be useful as reference for various sections of the people.
“Despite the development of modern technology such as television, Internet, etc, the kind of knowledge and experience gained from books cannot be substituted by anything”, Lollen said. HIV/AIDS awareness prog on Intl Youth Day
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: An awareness programme on HIV/AIDS was organized at Doimukh on the occasion of International Youth Day today.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Deputy Director (IEC) Tashor Pali, briefed about HIV/AIDS. He advised the youths to disseminate HIV/AIDS awareness message to the people.
DDSE Yupia, T T Tara highlighted the importance of youth and its role in creating awareness on HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Nabam Budh, Deputy Director (B/S) APSACS, Dr. A. Borang Deputy Director (ICTC) also spoke on the occasion and advised the youths to disseminate the message on HIV/AIDS to the general people so that people can have a proper knowledge to prevent the dreaded disease.

He urged the students to adopt book reading habit in library to enhance their knowledge as the Library is a source of storehouse of knowledge. Various books, magazines and newspapers can be excess easily therein and reading of these will undoubtedly help the students in their career building. So, it is important for the students to take membership of the library.
Junior Librarian (JL) of the library T Tagi discussed on various aspects and importance of library institutions and urged the people to avail the benefit from the library. He suggested the students for taking membership of the institution.

The new library building worth Rs 25 Lakh was funded by Kolkata based Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation. It was opened on April 27 last. At present the library contains about five thousand books including some magazines and newsletters.
Expedite investigation process: Union
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Lower Subansiri District Nyishi Students Union (LSDNSU) in a representation to the Chief Minister urged him to expedite the investigation process into alleged misuse of public money under PWD division Yazali.
Giving copies of relevant papers including complaints lodged at Ziro and Yazali Police stations, the Union demanded that the transfer of Yazali PWD division EE and other officers, who were allegedly involved in misappropriating of fund, should not be effected till the completion of police investigation. It further said that the alleged accused should be booked and given punishment.
Demanding immediate clearance of pending payment for the genuine contractors pertaining to various road projects, the Union also sought posting of sufficient police personnel at Raga and Dollungmukh Police Stations for maintaining law and order problems.
Other demands of the union included creation of police station at Yachuli, free electricity supply in Yazali circle from NEEPCO project, maximum employment opportunity for jobless local youths in the power development agencies such as NEEPCO, NHPC and Jindal Power Limited.

Inaugurating the championship, director of sports and youth affairs DK Dinglow advised the participating players to play the sport with sportsman spirit. With the approval of the state’s sports policy a long felt demand of the sports fraternity of the state has been fulfilled , the director said. He expressed the hope that the state would witness rapid development in sports sector within three or four years. He also said that his directorate would work for the promotion of Wushu in Arunachal Pradesh.
In his brief speech, newly appointed vice chairman of Spors Authority of Arunachal Sensei Likha Tara encouraged the budding players to take up sports sincerely. Sport, if pursued seriously, could not only bring personal and glory but also earn livelihood for them, Tara said. He announced to sanction Rs 25,000 to the Wushu association to bear the expenses in the championship.
Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association president Toko Teki advised the players to practice hard to improve their level of performance. He also informed the players about the job opportunities being offered by the state government through reservation for meritorious sportspersons in various govt departments. He advised the players to excel at their chosen discipline through hard work and bring laurels to the state.
The championship was conducted by the coach and international judge/referee Premkumar Singh.

TTF distributes essential items on its foundation day

Polo Colony Youth kicks start social service
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Polo Colony Youth Welfare Association (PCYWA) today kicked start three days social service by repairing the poor road near steel bridge at Polo colony Naharlagun. The social service will be concluded on 14th August. The youths voluntarily came out and repaired the pathetic roads by filling boulders and sands. Many vehicle accidents particularly two wheelers occurred due to deteriorating condition of said road. Social service at Pasighat
PASIGHAT, Aug 12: With objective to make Pasighat clean and healthy town, All Adi Students Union (AASU) today conducted a mass cleanliness drive at market area in Pasighat. Students, senior citizens and likeminded people joined the cleanliness drive. The volunteers cleared the garbage and choking drainages in the market areas. Poor BSNL service irks subscribers
Dear Editor,
Nowadays, the modern technology is developing rapidly throughout the world. Our country India is also marching ahead in the field of modern technology including information and communication technology. But, the BSNL network service at Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district tells a different story.
“The subscriber is not reachable please try after sometime’’ and “network busy’ are some of the services that the BSNL is providing to its customers since the erection of BSNL tower 10 years ago.
We the students’ community pursuing our education outside of districts or state, are mentally suffering much due to poor network. Whenever we are facing problems relating to health, transportation, educational etc., we opt to contact our parents or guardians, which can only be possible through telecommunication. But, having only a network service provider ‘BSNL’ at Daporijo, we do not have alternative option to communicate with our parents.
Sometimes, serious patients, who are referred to other places for further treatment, are also facing the worst situation due to communication gap caused by network problem.
Daporijo is known for fire accidents. But due to appalling network service fire fighters usually arrive late after the fire did its job.
Moreover, bewildering to know that there are 3 three nos. of BSNL towers within the

MGD report calls for true global partnership
With three important targets on poverty, slums and water having been met, a new United Nations report stresses the need for a true global partnership to achieve the remaining Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the 2015 deadline.
The eight MDGs, agreed by world leaders at UN summit in 2000, set specific targets on poverty alleviation, education, gender equality, child and maternal health, environmental stability, HIV/AIDS reduction, and a “Global Partnership for Development.”
The 2012 MDG report says that, for the first time since poverty trends began to be
monitored, both the number of people living in extreme poverty and the poverty rates
have fallen in every developing region, including sub-
The report notes that the target of halving the proportion of people without access to improved sources of drinking water by 2010 has been achieved. The proportion of people using improved water sources rose from 76 per cent in 1990 to 89 per cent in 2010.
In addition, the share of urban residents in the developing world living in slums has declined from 39 per cent in 2000 to 33 per cent in 2012. More than 200 million have gained access to either improved water sources, improved sanitation facilities, or durable or less crowded housing. This achievement exceeds the target of significantly improving the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers.
The report, however, said that Governments, the international community, civil society and the private sector need to intensify their contributions in order to achieve outstanding goals within the deadline.
